Mission for the Mission

Dreams usually begin with a vision and that is exactly what Becky Russell had when she turned that dream into a reality when she created Mission for the Mission.Mission for the Mission, a clothing drive for the less fortunate, took place on October 17,2009. Becky Russell a local clothing designer, held the event at McFerrin Community Center which lasted from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. “I was driving past the Rescue Mission one day and I was trying to figure out what could I do to help the homeless people in Nashville, so I got on Twitter and announced my ideas for a clothing drive, I had an overwhelming amount of support, so I went on planning from there,” says Russell. This event was a one day donation drop off. The volunteers taking the donations consisted of models, DJs, recording artists, etc. The turnout was amazing and many items from clothing, soaps, lotions, toothpaste and more were collected. The event was also covered by local news stations. Due to the great turnout for such a good cause, Russell now plans to do this annually. For more information on how to donate to the homeless , please call Nashville’s Salvation Army at (615) 259-2348.
